Grants to Michigan Individuals for Rental Assistance

There has been an increase in people calling for rental assistance in different states. Michigan has taken some steps in mitigating that situation.

Grants to Michigan low-income individuals in eligible areas who need financial assistance to pay a mortgage or rent due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Applicants must contact the Funding Source prior to submitting an application. Eligible individuals must reside in East Lansing.

The City of East Lansing has allocated CDBG-CV funds to provide emergency support to income eligible East Lansing residents to the issuance of rent or mortgage payments to persons experiencing financial hardships as a direct result of COVID-19.

Direct payments will be made to the landlord or property manager or mortgage company on the applicant’s behalf. No payments will be made directly to the applicant.

  • Rent payment (includes land contract payments, mobile home lot rent, late fees, court costs)
  • Mortgage payment and/or association fees

The program pays up to one-month rent and mortgage payments, with the possibility to apply for an additional two-months, to prevent eviction, foreclosure, missed payment and/or late fees.
