National Black Business Month

National Black Business Month is this month, August. As such, AfricanAmericanGrants.org recognizing Black-owned businesses across the country.

​Black-owned businesses in the United States account for about 10 percent of U.S. businesses and about 30 percent of all minority-owned businesses. As of 2023, there are approximately two million companies owned by African Americans.

To celebrate this iconic National Black Business Month of August, we are offering AAG members the opportunity to list their businesses with AAG for FREE!

Black businesses are growing in spite of the challenges that they face daily. There are budding Black entrepreneurs in different areas of human endeavors making their mark.

​Black business month occurs in August, and it’s set aside to celebrate Black businesses in all of its ramifications. Black businesses are resilient and thrive in the face of funding challenges. The different areas of Black entrepreneurship have to do with working hard and creating your own niche.

Black-owned businesses are located everywhere in the United States. The city of New York has the largest concentration of Black-owned businesses. No doubt, Black-owned businesses contribute to the economy greatly and have generated $150.2 billion in gross revenue as of 2012.

It is important to know that about 44% of Black business owners use their own funds to start their own businesses.

Today, several people interested in Black-owned businesses employ approximately 920,000 people. There are a number of amazing things to learn about Black businesses and we’ll be highlighting these accomplishments on here.

One of such challenges has to do with funding. Black businesses are still prone to being less funded in today’s business climate. In spite of the fact that Black women are still creating businesses at a rate faster than any minority group.

As much as Black businesses have thrived and still thriving, however, there are still challenges that face the average Black business today.
